“Fitting double glazed windows. I found Alan Joy windows to be an excellent company to fit the windows. I had never had double glazed windows before and I was rather nervous about the fitting day. Everything went to plan and the fitters were excellent. Professional and cleared up when finished. The office staff were extremely helpful and particularly reassuring. I cannot fault Alan Joy Windows and I would recommend them to anyone.”

In and Around Trowbridge, Melksham & Bath
Double-glazing for windows and doors has become the norm in UK buildings, so its easy to forget that this is a relatively new concept that only emerged in the 1970s and 80s.
Before that windows were glazed with just a single pane of glass – not much of a barrier against the bitter winter winds, and liable to quickly bleed the heat from indoors to out no matter how much you crank up the heating.
Double-glazing became a legal requirement for new builds after 2002, but there are still many older buildings out there paying huge heating bills and putting up with interior condensation because they lack the insulation provided by double-glazed windows and doors.
In Wiltshire and the North-East Somerset city of Bath Alan Joy Windows are the local specialists who professionally supply and install double-glazing in new builds or to replace old windows.
We supply and fit the highest grade double glazed windows, A-rated for energy efficiency.
We cover our local SN12 postcode area, the city of Bath (BA1 & BA2) as well as nearby towns like Bradford-on-Avon (BA15), Trowbridge (BA14), Westbury (BA13), Warminster (BA12), Chippenham (SN14), Devizes (SN10), Marlborough (SN8), Royal Wootton Bassett (SN4), Calne (SN11), and the surrounding countryside.

Double Glazing Technology
Thermally Efficient Windows
The principle behind double-glazing’s thermal efficiency is simple. A double-glazed window pane consists of two layers of glass with a gap between them. The gap is filled with an inert gas, like argon, under vacuum conditions, and hermetically sealed into a unit, ready to be fitted into a window frame.
Completely water-tight and providing glass/gas layers of insulation, double-glazed panels are the best you can get when it comes to keeping the cold and wet out, and the heat in. Double-glazed windows also reduce the noise that penetrates through the window, and offer enhanced security.
The thermal efficiency of double glazing can be even more improved by using low-emissivity (Low E) glass. This glass has a transparent metallic coating that reflects heat back into the room while simultaneously allowing heat and light from the sun to pass through.

Double Glazing Solutions for All Windows
Increase Your Property Value
We can supply made-to-measure double glazed window panes to specification, so that you can benefit from the advantages of double glazing no matter what type of property you live or work in, benefiting from better energy efficiency and enhancing the value of the property.
The only time when double-glazed windows may not be suitable is in a Grade I or Grade II listed building, where planning authorities will not allow the replacement of original single-pane windows if it impacts on the historic fabric of the building.
In these cases, though, we can usually find a solution by designing and installing secondary glazing – where a second window is fitted behind an existing window – without having to alter the original frames. This has the same effect as double-glazing for a period property.
If you are renovating a building or making home improvements we can help in other ways too. Our services include the supply and installation of:
