The Importance of a Clean Roofline
Next time you arrive at your property, look up. It’s likely that you don’t often take time out of your busy day to check the state of your guttering, downpipes, fascias and soffits – all the components of a building’s roofline.
You may be surprised to see that your roofline is dingy, dirty, perhaps even damaged and it is definitely detracting from the kerb appeal of the property – and therefore its aesthetic and monetary value.
It’s not just the looks that suffer when you neglect the roofline, however. All that roof trim is there for a reason: to deflect water and direct moisture away from entering the roof space and causing damage not just to the roof, but eventually seeping into the entire structure.
Keeping the roofline of your house or commercial property in good order is therefore not just cosmetic but also a necessary and practical way of preventing leaks, damp patches and mould. It’s not difficult or expensive to do – its just a case of remembering to do it!

Trowbridge, Melksham & Surrounding Areas
We have a specially trained and highly experienced team available to install EPDM flat roofing across our area of operation.
We cover our local SN12 postcode area, the city of Bath (BA1 & BA2) as well as nearby towns like Bradford-on-Avon (BA15), Trowbridge (BA14), Westbury (BA13), Warminster (BA12), Chippenham (SN14), Devizes (SN10), Marlborough (SN8), Royal Wootton Bassett (SN4), Calne (SN11), and the surrounding countryside.
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) flat roofing material, also known as rubber roofing, is a membrane renowned for its durability, waterproofing and insulating properties, and low maintenance. It is also resistant to moss or algae growth, tough, and resistant to UV rays. When adhered to the roof substrate it can provide a weathertight roof for 50 years or more.
We can apply EPDM rubber roofing membrane to any flat or slightly sloping roof structure, from garden sheds and garages to home extensions and commercial units.
This versatile material, which is available in different thicknesses, is also perfect for covering walkways, balconies and roof terraces, providing an anti-slip, frost proof and rot proof hardwearing surface that can be walked on.
If you’d like to find out more about this high-performance roofing system we’d be happy to help.

Fascias are the boards that are mounted along the roofline of the house, carrying the guttering.
The soffit board is tucked away under the fascia board, covering the gap between the bottom of the fascia and the wall of the house.
It is the soffits that are the most visible from below, and therefore the most unsightly if it they are damaged, decaying or showing signs of age, wear and tear.

Free Advice
Discuss your requirements.
Replacing old timber soffits with crisp, clean ventilated lengths of uPVC material not only improves the appearance of the building, but allows for the free flow of air into the roof space, avoiding the risk of condensation building up in the void and consequent timber decay.
The fascias, too, need to be in good repair and strong enough to hold the guttering and downpipes.
Fascias support the lower edge of the first row of roof tiles, and are usually fixed directly to the ends of the rafters.
Installing fascias, guttering and soffits is a professional job for which the roofing team at Alan Joy Windows have specialised training.

Cladding
Protect & Enhance an Exterior
The ultimate way to protect the exterior of your house is to wrap it all, or part of it, in attractive cladding.
We can supply and fit composite or uPVC cladding in a vast array of colours, styles and finishes, from plain white to wood effect.
The advantage of cladding your exterior walls is that any blemishes on the façade will be concealed, and the building will have a unique look. Cladding is also a low maintenance exterior solution – instead of periodic painting or rendering all you have to do is wash down the cladding every so often.
Of course, not only does cladding improve the aesthetics of your property, it provides protection from the elements and environmental damage too. Also of value is the fact that cladding adds an all-important extra layer of thermal insulation, which helps greatly with energy efficiency.
Here at Alan Joy, it is our pleasure to improve your property in a variety of ways. Besides sprucing up your roofline we offer a range of other services such as:
- New double-glazed and triple-glazed windows
- New composite, and uPVC front doors
- Patio doors
- Manual or automated garage doors
- Stunning conservatories
- Guardian Warm Roof for conservatories
We give free no-obligation quotations, so why not get in touch today to find out what we can do for you.

Long Lasting
High quality durability.
Cladding can give an older property an attractive make-over, providing a clean, contemporary look, particularly if you upgrade the windows, exterior doors and roof-trim to match or contrast with the cladding.
Some of our cladding clients have got creative and mixed different colours and effects of cladding to make an exterior architectural statement.
We’re happy to turn your vision into a reality. It is also effective to just clad the upper (or lower) storey, or add a feature panel of cladding to add interest and disguise ugly brickwork.
We can apply cladding to all sorts of solid walls, whether they be timber, stone or brick, without impacting on the integrity of the walls themselves.
The cladding we use is lightweight and comes as interlocking boards. It’s also good to know that generally no planning permission is necessary to install cladding, which falls under permitted development.
