EPDM rubber roofing has been used in the United States for many years, but is a more recent introduction to the British market. We all know the problems associated with felt roofs, but this system eliminates those by providing a durable, rot proof, frost proof, fully elastic, anti-slip textured surface proven to last in excess of 50 years. As a material it is so versatile that it is also suitable for hardwearing, non-slip flooring on walkways, balconies and roof gardens.
Alan Joy Windows have a team of experts qualified to install EPDM rubber flat roofing systems, guaranteed to last for decades and keep low sloped and flat-roofed extensions, outbuildings, porches, patios and car ports waterproof, leak free. This system, which involves the application of a durable, rot proof, frost proof and fully elastic anti-slip rubber membrane is also ideal for coating walkways, balconies and roof gardens.
With roofs it’s often a case of “out of sight out of mind”. We tend to forget that we rely on the integrity of our roof to keep us sheltered and dry, not only for our comfort but also to ensure that the ingress of moisture and the onslaught of weather over time doesn’t cause structural damage to our homes.
Key to ensuring a well-maintained roof – and of course a good-looking one too – is the maintenance of fascias, soffits and guttering.
Here at Alan Joy we supply and fit the uPVC fascias, soffits and guttering that have a long life with barely any maintenance required, and are strong and durable enough to stand up to the rigours of the elements for many years. We can finish your roof to a high standard with fascias, soffits and guttering to match and enhance the appearance of your roof tiles and/or house exterior trimmings, available in a wide range of colours, styles and finishes to suit every building from a pretty period cottage to an ultra-modern grand design.
Fascias are the boards that are mounted along the roofline of the house, carrying the guttering. The soffit board is tucked away under the fascia board, covering the gap between the bottom of the fascia and the wall of the house.
It is the soffits that are the most visible from below, and therefore the most unsightly if it they are damaged, decaying or showing signs of age, wear and tear. Replacing old timber soffits with crisp, clean ventilated lengths of uPVC material not only improves the appearance of the building, but allows for the free flow of air into the roof space, avoiding the risk of condensation building up in the void and consequent timber decay.
The fascias, too, need to be in good repair and strong enough to hold the guttering and downpipes. Fascias support the lower edge of the first row of roof tiles, and are usually fixed directly to the ends of the rafters.
Installing fascias, guttering and soffits is a professional job for which the roofing team at Alan Joy Windows have specialised training.
